Ballinasloe councillors criticise low levels of funding from national local authority support fund

Galway Bay fm newsroom - Ballinasloe area councillors are calling for Galway to get a bigger slice of a national local authority support fund.

Councils nationwide pay 20 per cent of their local property tax into an Equalisation Fund for it to be distributed to authorities struggling with funding.

A meeting of the Ballinasloe Municipal District this week heard that Galway has the second lowest return from the equalisatation fund in the country.

Councillors in the Ballinasloe area are urging Galway TDs to back a call for the county to get a larger allocation of funding due to shortfalls in the local authority budget.
