This is 140 thousand euro more than the bookies turnover for Galway Plate Day in 2018.

The guests of honour at the prestigious racing event yesterday were President of Ireland Michael D Higgins and his wife Sabina.

The big winner of the say was Borice trained by Gordon Elliott and ridden by Luke Dempsey.

Today is Ladies Day at Ballybrit with the Best Dressed Lady due to be crowned this afternoon.

The first race goes to post at 2 o'clock and we'll have full live coverage of all the races and the announcement of the Best Dressed Lady and Best Hat winner here on Galway Bay fm.
