Galway Bay fm newsroom - A meeting will be held in Athenry next week to discuss the future of the Rural Social Scheme and the Tús scheme.
Galway Rural Development is hosting the regional gathering next Monday May 30th at the Raheen Woods Hotel at 7pm.
The Rural Social Scheme provides supplementary income for low-income farmers and fishermen.
Meanwhile, Tús provides a short-term work placement scheme for unemployed people.
600 places are provided in East Galway under both schemes, with 20 supervisors.
The meeting will focus on the need to broaden the rules on the schemes to allow greater participation.
Supervisor pay will also be debated with calls to bring the pay scale in line with CE supervisors.
