Athenry objector to Apple Centre objects to Amazon Dublin Centre

Galway Bay fm newsroom - One of the objectors to Apple's planned data centre in Athenry has lodged an objection to another data centre in Dublin.

Athenry engineer, Allan Daly is opposed to the 850 million euro development planned by Apple.

According to today's Irish Independent, he has now objected to a 1 billion euro data centre by Amazon in Dublin.

Allan Daly argues that permission for the planned development by Amazon at Mulhuddart in Dublin should not be granted until the company outlines how much energy will be used on the campus.

He also says a decision should be deferred until after an assessment of Ireland's renewable energy framework, currently being undertaken, is completed.

Amazon already has a number of data centres in Dublin but its latest plan involves a 223 thousand square foot building at an IDA site in Mulhuddart.

Meanwhile, Apple's plans to build its data centre at a Coillte-owned site in Athenry are still stalled.

An Bord Pleanála previously upheld the county council's decision to grant permission for the Apple development but this is now being challenged by Mr. Daly and others in the Commercial Court.

It's hoped a decision will be made shortly.
