Galway Bay fm newsroom - Planning permission has been granted for a telecommunications structure in Headford despite a raft of local objections.
The project, led by Eir, would see a 21m structure built on lands at Ellagh on the west side of the town centre.
The plans will see an existing 12m wooden pole replaced with a 21m monopole carrying antennas and dishes.
There was considerable local opposition to the development, with a number of submissions from residents and Corrib Rugby Football Club.
Among the arguments were the structures proximity to local schools, the impact on the environment, visual appearance and established character of the town.
Health issues were also raised in several submissions, and others argued there's no need for the mast as there aren't any blackspots in the area.
County planners have now granted permission with 9 conditions attached.
