Galway Race Committee has secured approval for a major plan to redevelop three parcels of land at the Ballybrit grounds.
City planners have attached 10 conditions to the 14 million euro project.
The plans involve demolishing a toilet block, saddling stalls, turnstiles and a canopy and the closure of entrance ‘A’.
It also provides for a new parade ring and winners enclosure, north parade ring hospitality and amenities building as well as spectator viewing.
There will also be a parade ring hospitality restaurant building with a roof mounted external screen.
The weigh room and office building along with the Millennium Grandstand are to be upgraded and there will also be facilities for electric vehicles to charge.
City planners have attached 10 conditions.
One states an archaeologist is to monitor all groundworks and a report is to be furnished to planners.
The Irish Aviation Authority and Galway Airport are to be contacted prior to the erection of any crane to be used during the construction process.
A financial contribution of over 19 thousand 500 euro is to be paid to the local authority towards public services.
