Approval for 39 vacant and derelict homes to be returned to market across Galway

39 derelict or vacant properties across Galway are to be returned to the market through €6m allocated under a Government scheme earlier this year.

Housing Minister Darragh O' Brien has updated Cabinet on the third call under the Urban Regeneration and Development Fund.

The €6m allocated to Galway in January was split evenly between Galway City and County Councils.

But new figures show in Galway City that'll bring just two homes to the market -though it's not clear why the allocation would yield such a low number of units.

While in the county, the same money will cover 37 homes.

The URDF aims to cover the purchase price of properties and any minor works needed to make them more suitable for sale.

They're then offered for private sale to those who commit to bringing the property back into residential use.

Buyers can also offset costs by accessing a range of related grants - including the Vacant and Derelict Property Refurbishment Grant.
