Galway Bay fm newsroom - Ballinasloe is to get a new solar farm.
The county council has granted planning permission to Engie Developments Irl Ltd., to develop the solar farm at Rooaun to export electricity to the national grid.
The solar farm will have about 31 thousand square metres of photovoltaic panels on ground-mounted frames.
It will also include 2 electrical control buildings, a temporary construction area and CCTV security system.
The council is allowing the solar farm be built subject to 18 conditions.
One condition stipulates that all structures must be removed within 25 years of the date of commissioning and the site must be re-instated.
The developer of the solar farm must also adhere to strict requirements to safeguard the continued operation of the railway line.
