Galway Bay fm newsroom - The Saolta hospital group has apologised unreservedly and fully to the family of an Offaly boy for failures in the care he received at Portiuncula Hospital.
Eoghan Dunne, from Tullamore in Co Offaly, had been admitted to the hospital on 3 August 2012 following a GP referral.
He is now severely disabled following failures of care at the Ballinasloe facility.
In October 2015, the Saolta University Health Care Group Chief Clinical Director commissioned an external systems analysis review of the care provided to Eoghan Dunne in Portiuncula Hospital in August 2012.
The Dunne family was provided with a copy of this review last month.
In a statement to Galway Bay fm news, the Saolta Group says it has apologised unreservedly and fully to the Dunne family for the failures in the care delivered to Eoghan.
The General Manager of Portiuncula University Hospital has also previously apologised to the family for the manner in which the internal hospital review of Eoghan’s care was carried out.
The systems analysis report provided last month to the Dunne family makes fourteen recommendations.
The hospital group says all of these are either now fully implemented or are in the process of being implemented.
