Galway Bay fm newsroom - An Taisce has made a submission to the Department of Environment against plans to allow exploratory mining works in Connemara.
The Department is planning to grant a licence to Canadian company MOAG Copper Gold Resources.
An Taisce says the licence would allow exploration works to take place in protected areas including Murvey, Connemara Bog Complex and Dogs Bay.
It's made a submission to the department expressing concern over works being carried out in Special Areas of Conservation.
Advocacy Director at An Taisce, Ian Lumley, says the state should be looking at different areas that are more suitable for mining.
