Almost 800 vacant social homes returned to use in Galway since 2014

786 vacant social homes across Galway have been returned to use since 2014.

That’s according to new figures from the Department of Housing.

In Galway City, 308 were brought back into use, while the figure for the county is 478.

In total, almost €12m was spend refurbishing the homes – €4.7m in Galway City, and €7m in Galway County.

But both Galway City Council and Galway County Council have faced ongoing criticism for the number of social homes that remain vacant at any given time.
