Galway Bay fm newsroom - Almost 7 percent of Galway's workforce is employed in the drinks and hospitality industry.
A study published by the Drinks Industry Group of Ireland shows Galway is largely in line with the national average for people working in the sector.
The report also warns that the sector is vulnerable to potential problems arising from Brexit.
The drinks and hospitality industry employs almost 7,500 people in Galway according to figures released by the Drinks Industry Group of Ireland.
Close to 7 percent of total employment in Galway is in the drinks and hospitality industry while nationally 7.6 percent of workers are employed in the sector.
Between 2012 and 2019 the drinks and hospitality industry accounted for over 12 percent of Ireland's total employment increase.
The group argues the biggest threats to the sector are the possible fall-out from Brexit, Ireland's high excise tax on alcohol and a recent VAT hike.
Recent industry analysis by the DIGI also reveals over fiteen hundred rural pubs closed between 2005 and 2008 with seventy one closing in 2018 alone.
