Galway Bay fm newsroom - Almost 400 children across Galway are waiting on first time speech and language assessments.
That's according to Galway-Roscommon TD Eugene Murphy, who says the figure is completely unacceptable given the crucial nature of early intervention.
The Fianna Fail Deputy says a further 200 children are awaiting initial therapy after being assessed, while over 500 are awaiting further therapy.
Figures supplied by the HSE also show that almost two dozen children awaiting further therapy have been waiting up to two years.
Deputy Murphy says we've become used to long waiting lists in the health service but we must never accept them as normal.
