Galway Bay fm newsroom - Almost every single home inspected in rent pressures zones across Galway last year failed to meet minimum standards.
New figures reveal that Galway has the worst record in the country alongside counties Louth and Limerick.
According to the Sunday Business Post, 9 out of every 10 homes inspected in rent pressure zones nationwide last year failed to meet minimum housing standards.
The standards outline requirements to which landlords must adhere, including structural repair, sanitation, heating, light, safety of gas and electrical supplies and absence of damp and rot.
Analysis of inspections carried out in 2018 reveal that Galway has one of the worst records in the country.
Every single one of 483 homes inspected in the county last year failed to meet minimum standards - as did 99 percent of the 248 homes inspected in the city.
Meanwhile, 100 percent of 2 thousand properties in counties Limerick and Louth also failed to meet minimum standards when inspected by council officials.
Co. Wicklow had the best rate of compliance - 588 homes were inspected, over half of which were deemed to adhere to official regulations.
