A sculpture of aviation pioneers, Alcock and Brown, which has stood at Heathrow Airport in London since 1954, has been brought to Clifden for the centenary celebrations of the first non-stop trans Atlantic flight.

The sculpture will be unveiled at the Abbeyglen Hotel in Clifden at 6.30 this evening.

The statue of Alcock and Brown, was put in place in Heathrow as an initiative of the British Government in 1954.

It was the first memorial to Alcock and Brown and to their epic flight across the Atlantic in June of 1919.

Now, as the 100th anniversary is about to be celebrated in Clifden, the statue from Heathrow has arrived in Connemara.
