Galway Bay fm newsroom - Abbeyknockmoy businessman Declan Ganley is suing CNN over a report suggesting Donald Trump's administration pressured for his firm to be awarded a contract without a competitive process.
Lawyers for the telecoms entrepreneur have filed papers with the High Court in Dublin seeking permission to serve proceedings on the US news network.
The defamation suit relates to a report carried by CNN last October in the run-up to the presidential election.
It suggested that Donald Trump's administration pressured US defence officials to award Rivada Networks a multi-billion dollar contract without a competitive tender.
The contract related to a valuable 5G radio spectrum.
According to the Irish Independent, Declan Ganley has previously described the allegation that the Trump white house wanted to fast-track a contract for Rivada Networks without a competitive process as "a lie".
Rivada Networks was founded in 2004 by Declan Ganley, who serves as chairman and CEO, and has been running the US-based firm from Abbeyknockmoy since the lockdown last March.
