Galway Bay fm newsroom - A dozen post offices across Galway could be set to close.
That's according to Galway East Deputy Anne Rabbitte, who claims 10 branches are in talks with An Post to wind-up operations.
These are: Ballyglunin, Cloghbrack/Eyrecourt, Colemanstown, Cornamona, Inverin, Kiltulla, Kylebrack, Lettermullen, Menlough and Woodlawn.
Deputy Rabbitte claims while the closures are being made in consultation with the owners, the situation is indicative of the Government's failure to support rural Ireland.
Fianna Fail Deputy Rabbitte believes An Post has the entire process backwards - and says nothing should be closed until alternatives are explored:
Meanwhile, Galway-Roscommon Deputy Michael Fitzmaurice claims the closures are just the tip of the ice-berg.
Independent Deputy Fitzmaurice says An Post has overlooked viable options for the future of Ireland's post office network.
An Post is due to issue a statement in the next few minutes, tune in at 2pm...
