700 Galway people on jobseeker's allowance for at least 10 years

Galway Bay fm newsroom - Galway has at least 700 people who have been on jobseeker's allowance for at least 10 years.

Dublin has more than 4,000 on job seeker's allowance for a decade, while Cork, Donegal, Louth and Wexford match Galway with at least 700 each.

According to the Department of Social Protection, nationwide there are 15,000 people continuously on jobseeker's allowance for a decade.

Brid O'Brien, from the Irish National Organisation of the Unemployed, says extra support is needed for this sector of social welfare recipients
