54 percent conviction rate for Galway drivers caught using mobile phone

Galway Bay fm newsroom - Almost 54 percent of Galway drivers caught using a mobile phone were convicted of the offence in the period from January 2017 to May 2019.

That's according to figures released to Independent TD Tommy Broughan by the Courts Service.

The data published in the Irish Independent shows nationally a 50 percent conviction rate is recorded for mobile phone use during the period.

692 such offences were recorded in Galway with 372 convictions.

Longford had the highest rate of conviction in the period at almost 72 percent.
