Galway Bay fm newsroom - 48 percent of speeding cases in Galway from January 2017 to May this year were struck out due to the non-service of a summons.
Data released by the Courts Service shows that of the over 61 thousand such offences listed in the courts nationwide over the 29 month period, almost 46 percent were struck out.
The summonses were intended to be served on drivers who failed to pay a fixed-charge penalty notice.
The Irish Independent reports that Justice Minister Charlie Flanagan says a variety issues are causing the problem, including offenders evading being served the notice by Gardaí.
Drivers in counties Wexford, Westmeath and Limerick were much more likely to be served summons than those in Monaghan, Sligo, Mayo and Kerry.
Monaghan was the county with the highest rate of a summons not being served, with just over 60 per cent of speeding offences struck out.
