Over 3200 Galway students to pick up Leaving Cert results this morning

Galway Bay fm newsroom - Over 3200 Galway students will pick up their Leaving Cert results this morning.

Schools across the city and county will open at 9am.

1538 girls and 1597 boys sat the State Exams in June, with a further 71 students sitting the Leaving Cert applied programme.

Nationally, alomost 59 thousand pupils are getting their results today.

More students are taking higher level rates across almost all subjects this year, and fewer students are failing subjects.

A new grading system's been applied to all subjects this year - reducing to eight the number of grades available at each level.

Students who are concerned about their results can avail of hotline set up by the National Parents Council, for queries on everything from points to repeats.

A free helpline is manned by trained guidance counsellors and is open for the next six days, which can be reached at 1800 265 165.
