Water supply to Clarenbridge and Kilcolgan may also be affected as well as group water schemes between Athenry and Clarenbridge.

The main involved is a 350mili metre pipe which is surrounded by concrete and work is underway to break away the concrete before the pipe can be repaired.

It's expected the repair won't be repaired until 9 tonight when water supply will be slowly restored.

Irish Water says full service may take some time to return until the water refills the network.
