Galway Bay fm newsroom - The Ombudsman received over 250 complaints from the Galway public in 2016.
The office released its annual report in which it welcomes changes to the laws allowing people in Direct Provision to make complaints to it.
Last year, members of the public in Galway made 38 complaints about the City Council, and 35 about the County Council.
Six complaints were upheld against each of the local authorities.
3 complaints were made to the office of the Ombudsman during 2016 regarding NUI Galway - however, one was withdrawn and the other 2 were not upheld.
One complaint was made against the Galway Roscommon Education and Training Board last year, but the office of the Ombudsman deemed the complaint to be outside of its remit.
Nationally, 3000 people complained to the Ombudsman during 2016 - 625 complaints were related to the HSE and social care services.
