Galway Bay fm newsroom - 236 start-ups were formed in Galway in the first quarter of this year.
That's according to figures compiled by business analyst Vision-Net which show Galway had the third highest number of new formations nationwide.
Dublin has the most at 3,089, followed by Cork with 690.
The report also finds that over €49m in bad debt judgments have been awarded against companies and consumers in the first five months of 2019.
While the total value of judgments between January and May of this year are down 60% on the same period in 2018, the overall number has increased by 17.5%.
