There has been a 17 per cent drop in serious assaults in the city in the first 6 months of this year, compared to the same period last year.
The latest garda figures, which were presented to this week's meeting of the City Joint Policing Committee (22/7), show that there were 45 assaults causing harm reported in the city since January.
Meanwhile, there were 136 minor assaults recorded.
