Galway Bay fm newsroom - Over 12 thousand self-employed workers across Galway are set to benefit from reforms to the PRSI system.
The extension of the Treatment Benefit Scheme means that self-employed people, such as small business owners and farmers, will be entitled to benefits for the first time.
Galway West TD and Gaeltacht Minister Sean Kyne says the reform will benefit over 12, 179 people in Galway who pay the 'S' class PRSI contribution.
They'll now be entitled to free eye and dental examinations as well as contributions towards the cost of hearing aids.
Minister Kyne says it's the first step in a series of measures set to be rolled out by the end of this year.
