Galway Bay fm newsroom - Over 1,200 elderly patients were forced to wait more than 24 hours at UHG's emergency department last year.
That's according to City Councillor Mairead Farrell, who claims the latest statistics are 'borderline criminal'.
She says the figure makes UHG the second worst hospital in the country for wait times for the over 75's during 2017.
The information was revealed in a recent parliamentary response from the HSE to Sinn Fein Deputy Louise O' Reilly.
It revealed that 1,244 patients aged 75 or older were not seen within 24 hours at UHG's Emergency Department last year.
Sinn Féin councillor Farrell says staff are doing their best but much more is needed from government.
