Galway Bay fm newsroom - There was a 12 per cent increase of patients cared for by Galway Hospice in 2018 - compared to the previous year.
The Inpatient Unit in Renmore saw 361 patients throughout the 12-month period, according to the organisation's impact statement.
The impact statement gives a comprehensive overview of what Galway Hospice does, how it affects those who are helped and what it takes to make it all happen.
The report shows the average length of stay at the inpatient unit was 14 days and over 50 per cent of patients admitted were subsequently discharged.
It also indicates 2018 was a busy year for the Community Palliative Care Team who cared for 812 patients in their own homes - making over 7-thousand visits and 21-thousand calls to those patients.
There was also an increase in attendees to Day Care with hundreds of aromatherapy, art therapy, physiotherapy and hairdressing sessions.
Plans for the development of a larger facility for Galway Hospice at Merlin Park were rejected by An Bord Pleanála this year.
However, CEO of Galway Hospice, Mary Nash says the busy year at the organisation highlights further the need for a larger premises and they are continuing to locate another site.
