Tynagh Abbey Duniry face a tough task in All-Ireland Intermediate semi-final

Galway and Connacht Intermediate Club hurling champions Tynagh Abbey Duniry will face their toughest test to date on Saturday in O'Connor Park in Tullamore when they face Wexford and Leinster champions Rathnure in the All-Ireland semi-final at 1 o'clock. Rathnure have a rich history dating back to the famed Rackard brothers, Nicky, Bobby and Billy. They have reached five Senior All-Ireland Club finals in their history, including three in the 1970s, but lost all five, including the 1999 decider to Doora-Barefield. They were relegated to Intermediate in the Wexford Championship last year but bounced straight back up in 2024 by defeating St James 0-25 to 0-20 in the Wexford Intermediate County Final and caused quite an upset when they took down Kilkenny side Lisdowney in the Leinster Final by 0-24 to 1-16.

Tynagh Abbey Duniry have played in an All-Ireland Intermediate Club Hurling semi-final before. That was in January 2010, when they lost out to St Galls of Antrim by 0-12 to 0-10 in a game played in bitterly cold conditions in Parnell Park in Dublin where free-taker Brian Cunningham scored seven of the ten points for the Galway men.

Ahead of Saturday's All-Ireland semi-final (live on Galway Bay FM from 1 pm with Sean Walsh and Cyril Farrell on commentary), Tynagh Abbey Duniry manager Mattie Kenny has been chatting to Sean Walsh...
