Oranmore Maree win West U19 A football title

Oranmore Maree claimed the West U19 A football title tonight after they dethroned county champions Killannin in a thriller, winning by 4-9 to 2-14 in Oughterard.

The sides were level at the break 1-6 to 2-3, with an early Luke Carr goal for Killannin and four frees by Cian Marks cancelled out by two opportunistic goals by Oranmore Maree wing-back Tiernan Keane.
Killannin scored the first three points of the second half to go 1-9 to 2-3 up, but Dara Clery found the net for Oranmore Maree in the 36th minute to level matters again. Killannin responded with points from John McGauran and Luke O'Halloran either side of a goal by Brian Mitchell to take a commanding five-point lead into the final quarter. Eanna Costello for Oranmore Maree and Cian Marks for Killannin swapped points, before Dara Clery pounced for 1-1 to cut Killannin's lead to the minimum at 2-12 to 4-5 with six minutes left. The excitement was incredible as Oranmore Maree seized their opportunity. Ryan O'Donnell and Alan Burke put the winners in front as the game ticked into injury time, only for another Marks free to level the game for the fourth time. Oranmore Maree continued to pile on the pressure and two more points in quick succession from Ryan O'Donnell finally looked to have won the day. Yet, Killannin refused to buckle and after Cian Marks' scored his ninth point of the final, they had two opportunities to force extra time, only to see both narrowly miss the target. Eventually, referee James Molloy's final whistle signalled huge celebrations among the Oranmore Maree players and supporters as they emerged victorious by a single point in an epic encounter, 4-9 to 2-14, and they go on to play Dunmore MacHales in the county final.
Oranmore Maree scorers: Dara Clery 2-3, Tiernan Keane 2-0, Ryan O'Donnell 0-3, Eanna Costello 0-2, Alan Burke 0-1.
Killannin scorers: Cian Marks 0-9, Luke Carr 1-2, Brian Mitchell 1-0, Cian Gorham 0-1, John McGauran 0-1, Luke O'Halloran 0-1.
