Ciana Ni Churraoin Wins 4 Wall World Championship

Micheál Breathnach and Team Ireland handball member Ciana Ní Churraoin defeated Martina McMahon from Broadford in Limerick to claim her second World Championship, her last coming in 2019.

Ní Churraoin had a tough route to the final, having to beat her Doubles partner and world number five Niamh Heffernan. After beating Heffernan in the Singles semi-final Saturday morning she then partnered up with the Claregalway native to book their place in the Doubles final.

But Ní Churraoin had this Singles final to contest first and it was a thrilling encounter, going to 3 games. Ní Churraoin took the first game 15-11, and looking the better of the two players in the early stages almost won the second game but McMahon showed her class, staying alive by winning game number 2 by a single point. Ní Churraoin held out though winning the final game 11-8 and earning her second World Championship.
