On Friday, 8 December, 2023 Matthew slipped away very peacefully at home, in his 94th year, with his devoted loved wife Florrie of 65 years and family by his side. Predeceased by his much-loved son Barry, brothers Brian, Brendan, Michael and Ted and his sister May.
Deeply mourned by his wife Florrie, son Eugene and daughters Áine, Mary and Una, daughter-in-law Máirín O'Keeffe and son-in-law Niall Murphy, his very precious grandchildren Ailbhe, Barry, Eibhlín, Étáin and Bláithín, brother, Rory, sister Margaret and sisters-in-law Veronica, Kathy and Sr. Mary Margaret Walsh, the extended family, neighbours and friends in Galway, Moate and Lahinch.
Matthew will repose in St. Anthony's Room within the Church of St. John the Apostle, Knocknacarra (H91 W0H4) on Monday, 11 December, from 5 p.m.

Removal from Knocknacarra Church on Tuesday morning, 12 December, at 9.15 a.m. to arrive at St. Patrick’s Church, Church Street, Moate (N37YE30) at 10.45 a.m.
Requiem Mass will commence at 11 a.m. and following Mass he will be laid to rest with his son Barry in Donegan Cemetery, Moate .
