In the early hours of Tuesday, 14 January 2025, in her 95th year, Máire died very peacefully surrounded by her family and in the wonderful care of the staff at Caiseal Geal nursing home, Galway.
Pre-deceased by her husband Larry (1995).
Máire will be dearly missed by her adoring family; her son Michael and daughters Finola McGovern (New York) and Lara Stephens (Galway) , daughter-in-law Mary, sons-in-law Roger and Alan and her loving grandchildren Ailish, Leah, Larry, Caitriona, Tom, Dara and Kate.
She will be fondly remembered by her brothers and sisters Michael, Don, Mairéad and Patricia, her nieces, nephews, relatives and many friends.
Funeral Arrangements
Friday, 17 January 2025 : Reposing at the O’Flaherty Funeral Parlour, Munster Avenue, Galway (H91 V1K8) from 5:00 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.
Saturday, 18 January 2025 : Removal to St. James' Church, Bushy Park in advance of Requiem Mass at 12 noon. Following Mass, Máire will be laid to rest with her late husband Larry in the adjoining cemetery.
In the words of Sinatra, Máire lived a long and joyful life and truly did it ‘her way’.
