A proposal to house over 80 international asylum seekers at the Carna Bay Hotel is now being considered.
The hotel had been the subject of a well-attended public meeting calling for its restoration to the community for tourism.
This report from Máirtín Ó Catháin:

Local Connemara Councillors have been advised that a proposal which would involve the location of 84 asylum seekers in the village of Carna is presently being considered.
According to the proposal the asylum seekers would be situated in what is described as "across 28 rooms" in the Carna Bay Hotel.
A large attendance at a meeting in the locality last week called for the restoration of the hotel to community and tourism purposes.
However, the international asylum proposal continues to be on the agenda.
The Carna Bay Hotel was among a number of Connemara hotels which have been used to house refugees from Ukraine over the past three years.
The Carna Bay Hotel has been a cornerstone of community life in the area over a half century when three local man invested in the venture - Jackie Dowd and Pádraic Ó Cosgordha who have both passed away and local businessman, Micheál Geraghty. The property has since changed hands.
