Green light for new whiskey distillery and heritage centre in Carna

Galway Bay FM Newsroom – County planners have given the green light for a new whiskey distillery and heritage centre in Carna.

Permission had been sought by Údarás na Gaeltachta on behalf of Drioglann Iarthar na Gaillimhe Teoranta.

Behind the ambitious project is Galway hurling legend Joe Connolly and his family.

The development will be known as the Cnoc Buí Whiskey Distillery & Heritage Centre, and will be located at Pairc Ghnó Charna.

The multi-million euro project will also include a warehouse, shop, café, and tasting bar.

Údarás says it’s good news for the local and wider area – and will greatly enhance its tourism appeal.

It’s expected the distillery will create more than two dozen jobs in the first five years.

But indirectly, it could lead to a great many more in hospitality, due to the expected significant increase in visitors to the area.
