Galway Bay fm newsroom – Work is expected to get underway shortly on the design of a new Mental Health Day Hospital in Tuam.

The HSE is in the final stages of selecting a design team which will prepare an overall development plan for the Old Grove Hospital in the town.
The new development will consist of a mental health day hospital, a base for community mental health teams, and accommodation for staff working in Early Intervention and School Age teams.

Long-term plans for the site include the addition of a primary care center, a community nursing unit, day care center and Dementia Unit as funds became available.

Construction is expected to begin on the Primary Care Centre later this year.

The facility is being built as part of a national Public Private Partnership programme to develop primary care centres across Ireland.

The HSE says the design process for the new Mental Health Day Hospital is due to get underway in the coming weeks.
