UHG has second highest number on trolleys in the country

Galway Bay fm newsroom – The Full Capacity Protocol has been implemented at UHG, as the hospital struggles to deal with overcrowding.
42 people are waiting on trolleys, the second highest number in the country today.
In a statement to Galway Bay fm news, hospital management says the emergency department is extremely busy today with significant numbers of patients awaiting admission.
The Full Capacity Protocol has been put in place, and management says all efforts are being made to identify patients who are suitable for discharge.
Non-urgent elective procedures have been deferred.
Patients are advised only to attend the ED at UHG in a genuine emergency, and to attend their GP in the first instance.
Nationally, there’s been a rise of almost 33 percent in the number of patients waiting for hospital beds today.
There are 554, up from 419 yesterday.
432 of those waiting for admission are currently on trolleys, according to the INMO.
Beaumont and St Vincent’s Hospital in Dublin have 50 patients each waiting for beds, while University Hospital Galway has 42.
