Significant drop in city home construction

Galway Bay fm newsroom – It’s been revealed that Galway City has experienced one of the biggest drops in housing completions nationwide so far this year.

However, the county has seen a rise in the number of homes constructed over the past six months.

Nationally, over 6,600 homes were constructed between January and June of this year – that’s up almost 20 percent on the figure for the same period last year.

However, Galway City bucked the trend, and was one of the few areas nationwide to experience a notable drop in homes completed during that time.

There were 39 homes in the city constructed during the first six months of this year – that’s a 15% drop on the 46 homes built during the same period in 2015.

Meanwhile, the county experienced a rise in home completions – with 307 units delivered between January and June, compared to 282 during the first six months of last year – that’s an increase of 9%.

Nationally, Dublin has led the way for home completions so far this year – with almost 2000 homes delivered since January, an increase of 45%.
