Galway Bay fm newsroom – A protest is blocking the entrance to Barna Waste this morning amid concerns over a long-standing and potentially hazardous smell in the area.

Residents at the nearby Carrowbrowne Halting Site say the issue has been ongoing for a significant period of time – and the County Council has failed to take action on the situation.

They say the smell permeates their caravans and forces them to frequently abandon their homes at all hours of the day.

In a statement to Galway Bay FM, Barna Waste says the company is aware of a problem at the site and are working to resolve the situation.

The company says workers are on-site to address the issue but weather conditions are making the problem worse.

Speaking to Keith Finnegan, William Delaney says residents of Carrowbrowne have had health issues.
