O’Brien brothers out to land the American dream tonight

Joseph O’Brien could become the youngest winning trainer in Breeders’ Cup history, and his brother Donnacha the youngest jockey, if Intricately prevails in the Juvenile Fillies Turf tonight at Santa Anita.

The daughter of Fastnet Rock provided the fledgling handler with his first Group One success since taking out a licence when she sprang a surprise in the Moyglare Stud Stakes at the Curragh in September.

It was also a first top-level

success for 18-year-old Donnacha and the brothers will team up once more in California at approximately 10.50pm Irish time.

Joseph O’Brien currently holds the record for being the youngest jockey to ride a winner at the showpiece fixture after steering his father Aidan’s St Nicholas Abbey to victory in the Breeders’ Cup Turf five years ago, but Donnacha may well take that crown off him if Intricately comes up trumps.

Speaking to the Racing Post during the week, Joseph O’Brien said: “She’s a genuine filly with a good attitude.

“I didn’t expect that we’d have a filly as good as this one in our first year and we’re very lucky how it panned out. It’s great to be here.”
