N59 closed near Clifden following major mudslide

Galway Bay fm newsroom – The N59 is closed near Clifden following a series of major mudslides.

The first happened at around 7.30 last evening in the townland of Lettershea, around 5 miles east of Clifden town.

Council crews are on site, as mud continues to come down the hillside, covering the main route through Connemara.

Gardaí say the road will remain closed at Lettershea until this evening at least.

No-one has been injured and no property has been damaged in the incident.

Motorists travelling to and from Clifden are advised to use the Inagh Valley route into Letterfrack, or travel via Roundstone.
