Legacy joined Kevin Rohan last Sunday morning and performed a few songs ahead of thier gig’s in the Cellar Bar Galway

Never before in the history of the island of Ireland had an approaching new year been so filled with a sense of reverence for a time so long past. But when that coming year was to be 2016, then feelings of awe and appreciation for the people and events of 100 years ago, as well the mystery that still, in so many ways, surrounds those historic figures and times, are easily understood.

That reverence, awe and appreciation bring with them not simply a heightened awareness of and sensitivity to our culture as a nation, but also the expectation that we continue to live up to the legacy of those gone before us and the many traditions which their many sacrifices and talents gifted to us. The tradition of great music is one for which Ireland is known, loved and respected on almost all points of the compass right around the world. And no genres of music better preserve and honour all aspects and elements of our history, from our proudest and saddest moments, to our darkest and finest hours, than the ballad and folk styles.

And no group better demonstrates the power and beauty of these styles at their most brilliant, than the midland’s based LEGACY.

On March 16 & 18next, in perfect time to set the mood for Saint Patrick’s Day, LEGACY bring the torch they so proudly carry to The Cellar Bar in Galway city centre, where they’ll hold it high for a night that will, no matter what state the country is left in after the general election, warm the hearts of all who join them.

LEGACY are (lead vocals, tenor banjo & 5-string banjo), (guitar & vocals), (guitar, bass guitar & vocals) and (fiddle, mandolin & vocals). While Peter, Ger and Joe are all proud Westmeath men, Pat hails from Ardnacrusha in the mighty county of Clare, which will, of course, be home to the Fleadh later this year.

LEGACY, by way of their  passionate performances, have been described as offering the listener,

“…a deep insight into the social and musical tastes of Ireland’s ballad lovers…”, through their choice of material, which is, “both thoughtful and entertaining”, as LEGACY, “remind us of the recent events and issues that have shaped the history of our land.”

Fine words indeed, but prudence whispers to the wise soul that all fine words need testing as to their worth, and the first stop on such a mission? The source. And the source of the above tributes to LEGACY? None other than Derek Warfield of The Wolfe Tones, himself a giant of Ireland’s musical heritage. So, we can consider those fine words to be both tested and proven. And lest some doubters might still remain at large, let it be known that Derek has been joined by Joe O’ Rourke on no less than six Wolfe Tones albums. Derek has also referred to Peter Wrafter as having, “…a gifted ballad voice, with a powerful ability to relate story through song.”

Journeying down roads first traveled by other great Irish men of impeccable musical pedigree such as the aforementioned Wolfe Tones, The Fureys, The Clancy Brothers and The Dubliners, to name but a few, LEGACY have taken their magnificent 2-hour show to stages all across the UK, Germany and the US in recent years, entertaining at everything from wedding after-parties, birthdays and other private functions, as well as club events and festivals. From occasions solemn and sombre, to days or nights where laughter, fun and togetherness are the desired bond, LEGACY and their unrivaled repertoire are the men being called for from across counties, countries and continents.

So now you know, on March 16, the place to be is the Cellar Bar in Galway city centre, where LEGACY will be waiting to welcome you to a night you won’t forget.
