IT Tralee to host O’Connor Cup finals

The Institute of Technology, Tralee is delighted to announce that it has been confirmed as the host of the 2016 Ladies Gaelic Football O’Connor Cup finals weekend.
These finals will be held at the IT Tralee GAA pitch, North Campus as well as the John Mitchel’s GAA Complex on March 11th and 12th, 2016.
Commenting on the announcement Eamon Fitzgerald, GAA Games Development Officer at the Institute said, “the O’Connor Cup weekend is the premier competition for Third Level Ladies Gaelic Football in Ireland.
The competition began in 1987 and has transformed into a fiercely contested tournament with the majority of the game’s most exciting and talented athletes in action. The weekend also incorporates two other Ladies Gaelic Football competitions – the Giles Cup and the Lynch Cup. Also, we are delighted that “An Sean Mhuileann, Student Accommodation have decided to come on board with us as the major sponsor for the weekend”.
Colleges and Universities nationwide compete throughout the year in the preliminary stages of the competition before the top teams emerge for the finals weekend. This year IT Tralee is delighted to open the doors of the Kingdom to its fellow students nationwide and hope to make the tournament a really special event.
“In total, Tralee will welcome 12 teams from all over Ireland which will include over 400 ladies footballers along with their management teams, family, friends and supporters. Also present at the weekend will be various dignitaries from both the Ladies Gaelic Football Association and the Gaelic Athletic Association,” Eamon added.
Coverage of the O’Connor Cup final will be provided by TG4 on Saturday evening March 12th at 6pm.
