Galway Bay fm newsroom – Gardai have recovered six valuable pieces of artwork stolen from a Kiltullagh church almost three years ago.

The artwork was recovered during a planned operation yesterday afternoon at a wasteland in Co. Offaly.

Six oil paintings – which could be worth an estimated 150 thousand euro – were stolen from the Church of St. Peter and Paul in Kiltullagh in June 2013.

They were part of a set of fourteen paintings depicting the Stations of the Cross specially commissioned by Dublin-born artist Evie Hone.

Three years ago, Crimestoppers offered a reward for any information leading to the recovery of the stolen artwork.

The missing paintings have now been discovered by Gardai – who located all six pieces during a planned search at wasteland near Edenderry in Co. Offaly yesterday afternoon.

No one was arrested during the operation, but Gardai say enquiries are ongoing.

According to the Irish Times, the paintings are said to be in good condition, and have been removed to Tullamore Garda station for forensic and technical examination.
