Galway homeowners affected by severe flooding over the past two months are being urged to seek a review of their Local Property Tax.

Galway East candidate Ciaran Cannon says a number of homes have decreased significantly in value following unprecedented flooding in several areas of the county.

The Fine Gael candidate says the re-evaluation of affected homes will reduce the LPT charges – and in some cases homeowners may not be liable for any property tax at all.

He’s also urging those unable to get flood insurance due to flooding in 2009 to seek re-evaluation in light of the difficulty of selling such homes on the market.

Ciaran Cannon says a reduction in property tax is the least that those affected by flooding deserve.
