Galway response to flooding discussed at national emergency meeting

Galway Bay fm newsroom – A meeting has been held at the National Emergency Coordination Centre this afternoon to review the response of Galway County Council and other affected local authorities to the recent episodes of flooding.

The National Coordination Group is comprised of representatives from the OPW, ESB, HSE, Civil Defence, Coastguard, Defence Forces, An Garda Síochána & Met Eireann.

Front line agencies reported on their responses to flooding at this afternoon’s meeting.

Local authorities including Galway County Council are continuing to monitor the situation.

In the areas where further flooding may occur the councils are making the necessary preparations, and will be aided by the Defence Forces when required.

Meanwhile, Met Eireann says today and Friday will be showery.

Towards the weekend, the weather will deteriorate with heavy rainfall 50-80mm in Galway, the midlands, Munster & Connacht.
