Galway Bay fm newsroom – Nurses from University Hospital Galway are travelling to Dublin today for an emergency meeting to discuss overcrowding at emergency departments across the country.

The meeting is being organised by the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation – which says patience is wearing thin among members.

They say the number of people on trolleys has increased by 28 percent each year for the past five years.

It’s understood INMO representatives from across Ireland will discuss their concerns with Health Minister Leo Varadkar today.

INMO General Secretary Liam Doran says UHG is one of the country’s ‘worst offenders’ in terms of overcrowding.

He says nurses at a number of the worst-affected hospitals will reluctantly consider strike action if solutions cannot be found.
