Galway’s Junior footballers beat Leitrim last evening in Tuam Stadium in the Connacht junior championship semi-final to set up a date with Mayo in the Connacht final in two weeks time. The visitors opened the scoring following a James Glancy point but Michael Day levelled matters minutes later before the first goal of the game arrived from Ryan O’Rourke to give Leitrim a 1-1 to 0-1 advantage.
Matthew Reddington and Alan Molloy reduced the arrears with a brace of points and when ‘Man of the Match’ Antoine Ó Laoi scored his side’s goal the hosts led by 1-3 to 1-1. Further points followed from O’Laoi (0-3) and team captain David Wynne to leave Galway going in at the break leading by 1-7 to 1-3. In the second half Matthew Redington from Dunmore MacHales added 3 more points to his tally, with further scores from Niall Lee (0-2), Michael Day, Antoine O’Laoi and Alan Kyne as Galway outscored Leitrim by eight points to four to advance to the final on a final score of 1-15 to 1-7
