Galway Bay fm newsroom – Galway’s IFA presidential candidate Joe Healy is calling for an investigation into Irish retailers amid concerns over payments to suppliers.

The Athenry farmer says that a recent investigation in the UK found that Tesco had deliberately delayed payments to suppliers to boost profits.

He’s urging Ireland’s Competition and Consumer Protection Commission to launch a similar investigation here to ensure similar practices are not being employed.

Joe Healy says that it’s crucial that Irish retailers are dealing with suppliers in a fair and transparent manner.

The IFA presidential hopeful says that the any significant delays in paying suppliers pass down the chain and onto farmers.
