Galway emergency department is second busiest in country

Galway Bay fm newsroom – The Emergency Department at University Hospital Galway is the second busiest in the country according to the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation.

Nurses from Galway are in Dublin today for an emergency meeting to discuss overcrowding at emergency departments across the country.

They say the number of people on trolleys has increased by 28 percent each year for the past five years.

Nursing representatives from A&E departments around the country are meeting around now before meeting Health Minister Leo Varadkar in the afternoon.

Industrial Relations Officer with the INMO, Claire Treacy is one of the nurses in Dublin today for the meeting.

She says Galway’s A&E is among the busiest in the country.
